TOP 5 SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS

As a valued member of the Church Tackle Pro Staff, your public image (your personal brand) represents not just yourself, but the lifestyle, values, and quality of the Church Tackle brand. We understand that all of the social media platforms offer great opportunities to grow your brand (and our brand), but the best practices can be confusing and frustrating, as the rules seem to change frequently and without warning. It’s easy to feel like your posts are just getting  lost in a sea of clutter. With that in mind, we want to help you get the most out of your efforts. So, here are five simple, powerful tips for posting on social media.

1. Focus on Showing the Product in Action

While a picture from the end of the day holding a fish and a planer board is definitely better than nothing, it really doesn’t make much of an impact. Show people how you use the gear. Try to capture an action shot. Zoom in on your favorite detail of one particular board. Teach something the viewer might not already know. Create value for the viewer. It doesn’t have to be big, but if they look at your post and think, ‘huh, I didn’t know that,” you’ve made an impression. Keep it authentic and show how Church Tackle helps you catch fish.

PRO TIP: For some great, easy tips on capturing interesting, unique photos that will get noticed, refer back to this earlier newsletter article on PHOTO TIPS HERE.

2. Use Your Post to Tell a Story

Instead of just saying “Caught this big one today,” try something like:
“We fought some pretty big waves today but it was worth it. The first hour was slow, but as soon as we put out the Church Tackle stern planers, we started getting bites. I know a lot of people forget about stern planers but that’s a mistake. What I thought was going to be a long, rough day, ended up with our three person limit, with three double headers, and a couple really nice fish over 8 pounds. My nephew got this 8-13 beast on a crawler rig—his personal best.”

Stories = engagement. Be informative, honest, and personal.

3. Tag Church Tackle (Correctly!)

Always tag the brand account in the caption. Use the hashtags #churchtackle and #justplanebetter. This makes it easy for the us to see and re-share and helps your content reach more eyeballs.

PRO TIP: Don’t just spam each post with a long list of hashtag brand names of everyone who supports you. That really doesn’t help any of the companies.

4. Post a Variety of Content and Formats

By posting the same grip-n-grin or cooler full of fish-style pic at the end of each day, your social media page will lose momentum and effectiveness. Try mixing up the variety of photos you post—action shots, closeup product details, etc. Again, for lots of easy, effective ideas, check out this earlier newsletter article on PHOTO TIPS HERE. But also mix up the format of the info you post. Include short videos, stories, rigging tutorials, behind-the-scenes at tournaments, bloopers, or day-in-the-life posts. Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts in particular are driving reach right now.

5. Engage With Your Audience and Church Tackle’s Audience

Always reply to comments, share fellow anglers’ posts, and comment on the Church Tackle’s content too. The more active and authentic you are on social media, the more that platform’s algorithm will recognize and support you, and the more your content gets seen.

PRO TIP: Absolutely never get into a pointless, social media battle with anyone. Keep all responses, polite, respectful and upbeat. Avoid topics like politics, religion, etc. Never feel like you need to get the last word. If someone is aggressive towards you, either ignore them or block them without a response. There is just no upside to engaging, even if you are 100% right.
